Happy New Year

MC tagged me, so now I'm it (and extremely late). Here are five random things you may not know about me:

1) I can speak six languages: French, German, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, Tagalog, and English.
2) I am not planning on ever having any children.
3) I always take pictures of food I eat. Always.
4) I have had an molar extraction, a bridge, three root canals, and two cavities in the last two years.
5) I have a goal to always eat a new animal when I go somewhere special. Most recent addition to the list: horse.

Christmas was wonderful. It was the first time Aaron and I spent Christmas with just the two of us, but it was nice to have some peace and quiet. My in-laws were here for three weeks, and then my two best friends, Cory and Kelcy, visited us with Cory's boyfriend Brendan for a week in Bern. We got to ring in the New Year together with a few bottles of champagne right in front of Münster Cathedral along with a few hundred locals. Some pictures:

Getting Ready to Count Down

Looking Cute

The embassy is gearing up for the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos next week. I'm pretty excited. I'll actually get to experience an Alpine winter since it'll be snowing next week while I'm in Davos for the WEF. I'm going to bring my personal camera along to get some pictures - it's a very beautiful part of Switzerland. I also get to be the unofficial/official embassy photographer (using the public affairs office's camera, not mine) at the Ambassador's reception. Good times. (I'll also be on 24-hour call - and I volunteered for it, by the way. Look at how dedicated I am!)

As if all the shopping I did on my recent trip to the US weren't enough (and really, I did a ridiculous amount of shopping), I recently purchased some new toys to reward myself for all my hard work: a black 80-gigabyte iPod and some speakers for the office. Oh, and did anyone out there see the Macworld keynote speech announcing the iPhone and AppleTV? I may as well give Steve Jobs my bank account number since I'm going to be giving him so much of my money anyway.

And so with that, I leave you with this lovely picture of Bern, my home away from home, until my next update.
