Recap of the Last Month

It's hard to update regularly when you only have one laptop to share between two people. But good news - our household shipment has arrived in Antwerp! It'll be like Christmas opening all those boxes that we haven't seen in over a year.

Aaron and I took a trip to Burghausen, Salzburg, Altötting, and Munich over Labor Day weekend. We met friends of his parents, Bunty and Helga, who hosted us in their home and took us through the Bavarian countryside. Here are some pictures.

Pope Poster
Popemania was in full swing in Bavaria since the Pope was visiting the week after we were there.

Mail Slot
We walked through a small street in Burghausen and I fell in love with the old ornate doors. This is the coolest mail slot I've ever seen.

In Altötting, there's a small chapel where Our Lady of Altötting sits. Algon the outside walls and ceiling, there are hundreds of paintings, some centuries old, made in honor of Maria by people who have prayed to her and had their prayers answered. They all say "Maria hat mir geholfen" ("Maria helped me").

No blog entry of mine would be complete without pictures of food, and no trip to Germany or Austria would be complete without indulging in (lots of) local beer.

Pre-Lunch Beer and Pretzels
Before our lunch of rich Austrian food during our day trip to Salzburg, Helga and Bunty insisted on an appetizer.

My Awesome Lunch (and Beer)
Following the beer and pretzels, I had this delicious dish. I can't remember what it was, but it was really good.

Salzburger Nockerl for Dessert
This is made out of cream, egg whites, egg yolks, and sugar. It is ridiculously yummy and bad for you.

Schweinebraten, Semmelnknödeln, und Petersilienwurzel
Helga is a really, really good cook. I don't care what people say about German food - I love it.

Just Can't Get Enough
I hadn't finished my first beer before the second one arrived. Here I am trying to even things out.

These pictures and more can be found on my Flickr page, which can be accessed by clicking the Flickr badge at the right side of the page.

Are you guys in the State Department or the 'Sate' Department? With all these food and beer posts, I'm starting to wonder...

Hi Anna! It was great running across your site and seeing some farmiliar pictures of Bern. I was a Marine Security Guard posted in Bern and transferred in 1989.

I went back in 2000 and stayed in the Silvahauf for a week courtesy of the detachment commander.

I saw your pictures of Thun. Did you know you can do a raft trip from Thun to Bern?

What a great place to live.

    I hope you enjoy yourself.

If you have any questions you can email me at kellyveii@msn.com.

I look forward to reading more of your site.

    Best Regards,

    Kelly Charles
